Writing Tips from John Steinbeck

Jean-Paul Sartre is sitting at a French cafe, revising his draft of Being and Nothingness. He says to the waitress, “I’d like a cup of coffee, please, with no cream.” The waitress replies, “I’m sorry, monsieur, but we’re out of cream. How about with no milk?”

At the beginning of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee quotes Charles Lamb: “Lawyers, I suppose, were children once.”

As we get older, we become more honest and don’t have the patience for pointless drama……….

What a wonderful word…….someone who gives opinions on matters beyond their knowledge
